Ufuk Hasdemir is a Professor of Medical Microbiology at Marmara University School of Medicine since 2007. Previously, she has held research positions at the Schering-Plough Research Institute in the USA, INSERM in France, and Georg-August University in Germany. Her research focuses on dynamics of antibiotic resistance. Specifically, she explores drug resistance mechanisms, phenotypic and molecular detection of antibiotic resistance, and WGS and antibiotic resistance. Her most recent work involves (i) the development of a simple, inexpensive, rapid, and sensitive test that detects antibiotic resistance directly from clinical samples, and (ii) the investigation of the role of DNA sequencing and WGS in the detection of antibiotic resistance determinants and virulence factors in clinically important bacteria. Hasdemir’s previous research has appeared in Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Clinical Microbiology and Infection, International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, Vaccines. Hasdemir also serves on the steering committee of Türkiye’s National AST Committee (ADTS), affiliated with EUCAST, and is a founding member of the National Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System, a participant of WHO-CAESAR (Central Asian and European Surveillance of AntimicrobialResistance) group.
