Geoffrey Coombs

Professor Geoffrey Coombs is the Chair of Public Health at Murdoch University and the Senior Clinical Scientist (Research and Teaching) for the Department of Microbiology, Fiona Stanley Hospital Network, PathWest Laboratory Medicine – WA.

His current major areas of research are:

– Investigating the molecular evolution of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecium

– Molecular epidemiology of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in Australia

– Antimicrobial resistance surveillance.

Professor Coombs has co-authored over 240 peer-reviewed scientific papers and has over 400 national and international conference publications. He is President for the International Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Past President for the Australian Society for Antimicrobials and Chair for the Australian Group for Antimicrobial Resistance.  In addition, he is the Principal Examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia Faculty of Science: Microbiology
