I received graduate training in medicine and completed my residency training in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Ege University, Faculty of Medicine, Turkey. My work experience includes visits to the Clinical Microbiology Division of Mayo Clinic, MN, USA and the Virology Department of Erasmus Medical Center, Netherlands to study new diagnostic methods and nucleic acid assays.
In 2000, I became a faculty member at the Department of Medical Microbiology, Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, and has been working as a full professor since 2008. I am a founding member of Divison of Medical Virology and have been its head since 2015. My main interest is diagnostic virology including the application of nucleic acid assays to clinical virology, method validation, standardization, and quality control.
