Antoine Abou Fayad was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in “Combining Chemical Synthesis and Biosynthesis to Generate Novel Antibiotics” from the University of St Andrews, St Andrews, UK in 2014. He subsequently did one year of post-doctoral training at the University of St Andrews (2014-2015), followed by two years of post-doctoral training at Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research in Saarland, Germany (2015-2017) where he pursued his research work in discovering novel antibiotics to combat antimicrobial resistance. On August 1, 2017, Antoine Abou Fayad joined the Department of Experimental Pathology, Immunology and Microbiology, at the Faculty of Medicine at the American University of Beirut as an
Instructor. In 2023, Antoine was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. His research interests focus on antimicrobial resistance in Gram-negative pathogens with a main focus on AMR in conflict regions under a “One-Health Approach” and the discovery of novel anti-infectives. He has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 1 patent and a book chapter.
